dc.description.abstract The current research project focuses on the factors that trigger low speaking performance in 10th graders at Escuela Hacia Nuevos Horizontes, using the theoretical underpinnings of writers who are well-known locals and foreigners who have researched the process of teaching and learning a second language. For this, a qualitative study of a phenomenological type was carried out through interviews. As for the sample in this research work, a total of ten students were selected, and through a focus group, a total of nine open-ended questions were asked so that a more in-depth analysis could be made, gathering each of their opinions. The variables obtained will be thoroughly examined, and we will briefly summarize the students' concerns about speaking skills. The result of the research on performance conditions, the participants confirmed that the biggest obstacle they face in developing their speaking skills is due to lack of vocabulary. In emotional factors, most students were feeling nervous while performing speaking, they were not motivated. In terms of listening ability, students mostly cannot comprehend what the speaker said in the conversation. Therefore, based on the results, some recommendations were made to help the student improve speech performance during the English learning process. es
