Social and psychological impact of COVID-19 in health personnel. Ecuador Case.

dc.descriptionThe COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health problem. In this framework, health workers face great challenges, with several stressors and risks to their physical and mental health. The main objective of this research was to understand the social and psychological impact on frontline health personnel facing the health emergency caused by COVID-19.  A qualitative study was carried out, through active interview with flexible script through digital media to officials who work in the first line of attention in front of the COVID-19, in the provinces of Cañar and Pichincha, Ecuador. The data were analyzed through the hermeneutic method. The main narratives related to the experiences of health personnel in their struggle against COVID-19 were identified. Health personnel, faced with long shifts, scarcity of supplies and a health system on the verge of collapse, express fear of contracting SARS-CoV-2 and infecting their loved ones, difficulty in sleeping, fatigue at the end of their work day and the effect on their mental health. In conclusion, psychological well-being and prevention of mental illness should be one of the main priorities when dealing with COVID-19.en
dc.descriptionLa pandemia por COVID 19 llegó a constituirse un problema de salud mundial.  En este marco, el personal sanitario enfrenta grandes desafíos, surgiendo varios factores estresantes y riesgos para su salud física como mental. Con el objetivo de conocer el impacto social y psicológico en el personal sanitario de primera línea que enfrenta la emergencia sanitaria por COVID-19, se realizó un estudio de tipo cualitativo, mediante entrevista activa con guion flexible a través de medios digitales a funcionarios que laboran en la primera línea de atención frente a la COVID-19, de las provincias de Cañar y Pichincha, Ecuador. Los datos fueron analizadas a través del método hermenéutico. Se identificaron las principales narrativas relacionadas con las vivencias del personal de salud en su lucha frente a la COVID-19. El personal sanitario ante los turnos extensos, escasez de insumos y un sistema de salud al borde del colapso, manifiesta miedo de contraer el SARS-CoV-2 y contagiar a sus seres queridos, dificultad para conciliar el sueño, fatiga al final de su jornada laboral y afectación a nivel de su salud mental. Concluyendo, el bienestar psicológico y prevención de enfermedades mentales debe ser una de las principales prioridades a la hora de afrontar la COVID-19.es
