dc.descriptionThe objective of this work was to determine the level of knowledge of type 2 diabetes in the population of the province of Santa Elena from May 15 th to 30 th, 2019. Methodology: Observational, cross-sectional and descriptive research was carried out on a sample of 770 inhabitants from the province of Santa Elena, the data collection instrument was the Likert Scale prepared and validated which for this purpose contained 8 statements on the knowledge of type 2 diabetes. The results showed: that 54.3% of the respondents were women and 45.7% men. The average age of the population was 37 years, ± 0.498 SD. The highest level of ignorance about type 2 diabetes corresponded to the female sex with 19%, in the group of adults with 30% and who attended the secondary level 18%. When the level of ignorance of the 8 statements was averaged, the percentage was 37%; reaching to the conclusion that it is necessary to intervene through health promotion in order to decrease the incidence of type 2 diabetes in the province of Santa Elena.en
dc.descriptionEl objetivo fue determinar el nivel de conocimiento de la diabetes tipo 2 en la población de la provincia de Santa Elena en el periodo del 15 al 30 de mayo del 2019. Metodología: Se realizó investigación observacional, transversal y descriptiva en una muestra de 770 habitantes de la provincia de Santa Elena, el instrumento de recolección de datos fue la Escala de Likert elaborada y validada para el efecto que contenía 8 afirmaciones sobre el conocimiento de la diabetes tipo 2. Los resultados revelaron: que el 54.3% de los encuestados fueron mujeres y el 45.7% hombres. La edad promedio de la población fue 37 años, ± 0.498DS. El mayor nivel de desconocimiento sobre diabetes tipo 2 correspondió al sexo femenino con el 19%, en el grupo de adultos con el 30% y que cursaban el nivel secundario 18%. Cuando se promedió el nivel de desconocimiento de las 8 afirmaciones el porcentaje fue del 37%; llegando a la conclusión que se debe intervenir a través de la promoción de salud para disminuir la incidencia de la diabetes tipo 2 en la provincia de Santa Elena.es
